I'm new to the pedal steel, having played a (non-slide) six string for more than 25 years. I've picked up a used MSA D10 from a forum member, along with a few other items, and I'm ready to learn. But while I live by myself, one of my cats has decided that she, too, wants to play with my new guitar. I took a couple of pictures and just has to share:

Just the fact that the cat will even go near your MSA is a good sign!!!! You must be doing ok or else the cat would not even be in the same room with it! LOL
I have 3 "problems" in my studio. Stevie & Jane (both 85lb German Shepards) want to lay right under my feet when Im playing and my 18lb cat "Blue" likes to sit on the counter top that is level with my strings and swat at my bar hand as it moves up and down the neck. Gotta love'em though.

I used to have a midi-pickup on my steel to play through a synthesizer and my synth had a patch for a little bird-chirping sound. I'd play that on the steel and watch my cat go nuts trying to find the birdy inside my amplifier! LOL. I know, I'm such a mean old man...

What a beatiful cat, and a great looking guitar. Congrats, on both! Me-ow. I'd love to see a picture of the guitar sans feline. I like the look of the white (pearl?) tuning buttons...is the top pearl? That's too cool.

I think cats just love pedal steels. I couldn't even count the number of for sale pictures where they sneak in.

I wish I had some pictures to share of mine laying up there - I'd love to see a thread of everyone's pictures.

I was playing lap steel with some friends once and did a loud bar slide all the way up to the pickup and their dog ran over and started barking at my amp!

Cool cat and cool guitar, too! I'm sure it will bring you a lot of enjoyment.

cats like high up places.
a similar story. a friend had several dogs that lived in a nice doghouse.
then he got a goat.
now the goat enjoys standing on the roof.

apparently, goats like to be on top of things; vantage point?

so it's a good thing you only have cats and not a goat.

Cats must have a thing about steel guitars. I have 2 cats - one insists on jumping up while I'm playing and hanging from my strings by her claws, the other has to be on my lap which makes operating knee levers very difficult.
I wish my wife was that interested in steel guitar.....

Thanks to all for the kind comments. Melba's blushing.

Melba is a fiesty young cat that my son had, and she's always an attention grabber. I have three other cats and at least two of them have climbed up to look at the guitar close up, but I think Melba is the only one to adopt it.

I'll modify the page to include a picture of my new pedal steel. It's a 1973 MSA "Classic" D-10 and I'm really new to it. The cats may yet seek some far corner of the house to hide in.

I can vouch for that. Our calico will attack if she is startled by loud noise or sudden motion. I've been on the receiving end of this. OUCH!!!!

Our veterinarian confirmed that as calicos get older, they get more....ummmm....errrr....temperamental.

Melba has always been somewhat fiesty, and is the youngest of four cats that I have. I've noticed that Melba is going through a stage where she likes the "challange" the other cats, but I hadn't connected that to her coloring. Who knows.

I've found two of the other cars asleep on the guitar, so it's a matter of who's Queen of the Guitar.

My cat is a steeler too. She climbs up and runs off with my finger picks and hides them. I don't know if she don't like my playing or what? maybe she cannot figure out how they go on? but she is fascinated with finger picks.
