I just got a Stewart World 1.2 power amp today. After reading the manual and examining the amp, I think I know how to hook it up to my Evans pre-amp, but I want to be sure. There is a selection switch on the back that lets me select bridged or stereo. If I select stereo, then I have two different channels operating and two separate volume controls, one for each channel. On the other hand,if I select bridged, the power of the two channels are added together and it becomes one big, monstrous mono channel controlled by the one volume control of channel one and the channel two knob becomes inactive. If I am correct, then which setting should I use for mono operation, stereo (either of the two channels) or bridged, which will produce 1200 watts of power? |

If you want 1200W, I believe that's mono, bridged.
I have always been under the impression that it's 600 per side.
Before you hook it up that way, however, make sure you have enough speaker rating for 1200W (or more), since that will quickly overwhelm even a couple Black Widows.
I'd sooner set it for 600W (if you don't give the second channel an input, it won't be running) unless you have 4 speakers in series-parallel.
(the biggest danger in overwhelming a speaker is that the voice coils can't dissipate the added heat, and either fry or expand to rub the walls in the magnet) _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Thanks, Lane. I will be using Travis Toy TT-12 speaker which 8 ohm and is rated 300 watts. The Stuart owners manual says the output in stereo with an 8 ohm speaker is 250 watts per channel. So I will go with stereo setting and just use one channel. |

I would say that if you're using a preamp into the power amp, that controlling the volume on the preamp even if the amp is in bridged mode will keep the volume down to keep your speakers from splattering onto a nearby wall.
You would have to be careful as to how far you go on your preamp's volume control.
In order to control the amp in stereo you would need two preamps with individual volume controls.
Not unless, in setting the amp to stereo you only use one channel either side to power your speakers which presenting an 8 ohm load, you will get 200 watts off each channel.
You can run in 8 ohm bridged mode which knocks the power output to 700 watts. _________________ ShoBud The Pro 1
