Hey Everyone,
I'm flying out to San Diego for vacation. Staying in Point Loma. Any steel players in the San Diego area have a gig between September 2-9th? Would like to go out and hear some local music while I'm there. Thanks! |

I am pretty sure Joel Martin will be having his monthly Pedal Steel Party on Sunday Sept 2nd. Not 100% sure due to it being Labor Day weekend.
Here is the FaceBook listing:

Here is part of the post:
Joel Martin's Pedal Steel Party is a unique opportunity to see some amazing singer-songwriters in an intimate setting, backed by the most glorious of all instruments: the pedal steel guitar.
San Diego at Nate's Garden Grill every first Sunday of every month
Also, Steel Guitars of North County is about 45min North in Oceanside. |

The Renegade Country Bar regularly has bands with steel. It's out east a bit but worth the trip. While you are in town Jim Allen Band and Three Chord Justice are there and both have very good steel players.

My band is there Aug 25, but you'll miss that
Definitely pay a visit to Steel Guitars of North County also. _________________ Tom Dillon

My folks live down there, so I get down there a fair amount.
I have been to The Renagade and it is fun! Serious Dancers out on the floor there. I could barely keep up!
I heard they sometimes have a band with Steel at Moonshine Beach on Garnett St in PB, but I have never been there yet.

The Belly Up is another place that has good bands.

Pick up a copy of The Reader, which has all SD's music listings.
On Wed 4-8pm, there is a fun Street Fair in Ocean Beach that I always like to go to (they usually have some eclectic live music). Which is where Winstons is, another live music place but more Rock oreinted. The have a Grateful Dead Tribute Band every Monday night at 9pm, The Electric Waste Band.
A fun scene if you are into that.

I know Dave Berzanski lives down there (played Steel for Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash), and GD Walker (Walker Stereo Steel), but I don't have any info if they are gigging at the moment.
There are bands at Teo Leo's I go to see sometimes (they have a fun Swing Dance night), check their website, too.

You might call or email Jim Palanscar at Steel Guitar of North County to see if his shop has any event, or if he as a gig, or know of other Steel gigs during that timeframe. He always leaves a phone message if the shop is closed for any day/reason, so worth a call ahead before driving up there.
