I've got a small room at my work where I can go shut the door and get in 45 minutes of unplugged lap steel playing during my lunch hour. I usually spend this time memorizing new arrangements. I take my Oahu in with me each day - I guess most folks wonder what's in the case.

Anyone else getting some music practice in at work?

I just started working from home so, yeah, I expect to get pretty good at this thing!

I built one for just that purpose. However a friend of mine talked me into a Lollar String through Pup. There is NO WAY I was going to leave that one at work, locked door or not. I have a small room to keep my tool box and some equipment in. I think it's 6 ' x 8' but enough space to play. However with the door shut no air-conditioning gets in. It was 100* here yesterday........guess if I died in there, they would find me with a smile on my face. Very Happy

I live very close to my working place, 3-5 mins car drive.
Instead of lunching i always play music. Lap guitar, ukulele or tahitian uke. 50 mins. Nobody is at home at that time so its like paradise. Exceptions to the rule...only when surf's up. 50 mins of surfing.
In the mornings i also wake up 6,45 AM, play till 7,45. Then a quick shower and off to work, arriving there 8 03 AM. Perfect timing.

What is this "work" you speak of?

OK, yes, I'm retired. But I used to bring a guitar to work for lunchtime practice. I don't think I ever took a lap steel or Dobro.

We have an old acoustic in the break room at work a customer gave us... every now and then I'll tune it to open G and play a bit .. If it were just me I'd put an nut extender on it, but there's another guy at work who picks a bit... I don't always remember to tune it back to standard (and he can't tune by ear).. so open G is growing on him Laughing

I've been self-employed since the eighties , so I've never gotten any lunch breaks.

I work at home and do my lap steel exercises during conference calls.

Me too. I used to set it on top of the waste basket to save space. Then one weekend the cleaning lady pitched it in the dumpster, along with the rest of the trash. That ended that. Fortunately it was a relatively inexpensive A&L and not a '30s OM-45.
