Emmons pp basketweaves........ wood necks ?????

Post by Mark Shuda »

I have been trying to research the basketweaves here on the forum.
A couple of factoids garnered.
1.) Most basketweaves made were with black mica cabinet tops
2.) Although no numbers of qty. produced they (basketweaves) are indeed rare
3.) I have not seen, or heard of any example of a PP basketweave with a wooden neck.

I would welcome and ask for input from anyone that may be able to shed light on #3 above.

Thanks,
Mark

There's one listed right now in the steel guitars for sale section of the forum. Basket weave PP with wood necks.

Every basketweave I've ever seen had a matching basketweave top.
And, the one you're selling is just awesome...never seen one with a wood neck before.

Just search on basketweave using the Search box top of the page. There are several examples of this covering in some of the posts.

I played a D10 for more than 10 yrs 'til around 1990. The cabinet was covered, aprons and deck in basketweave and it had aluminum necks. I saw Cookie Jones play one in Nashville a time or two. It's the only other one I saw in person.

I don't recall for sure, but I think it was all basketweave covering too.

Every one I ever saw, live or in photos, was aluminum necks except for this one of Mark's.

If I remember correctly, Buddy Emmons LP titled Steel Guitar has a picture of a basketweave on the jacket. It's hard to tell from the photos I found, but it might have a mica deck.
