Anyone ever had an Anvil case built for your steel? I have one for my amp, and have been thinking about getting one for my steel. Never seen one, so I guess it would have to be a custom made case.

Carter has an D10 Anvil type case (actually made by Grundorf) that might work or be easily modified (additional padding). It has wheels too. |

I've had several built for various steels over the years as any road player has. I recently had one built for my Excel U-12. Any case maker can do it if you show him your existing case and the way a steel fits into it - the pedal rack and leg section etc. Expect to pay around $200+ for a good one. Or you might find something used or convert a used keyboard case or something like that - most case builders have a wherehouse full of used stuff.I've flown my old Sho-Bud Professional in its factory case back in the mid 70s when I didn't know any better and I've flown a U-12 Sierra in a carpet covered CushCase w/straps around it a couple times including once to Europe and things turned out OK on those occasions but I wouldn't make a habit of it. If you're gonna fly your steel or have goons throwing it on and off trucks etc,get a flight case. The problem of course when flying these days is the weight. This last weekend I flew out for some gigs and even tho my flight case is as small and light as it can be and still be a flight case and my steel is maybe the lightest guitar made - an Excel keyless U-12,it still weighed in at 55 lbs in the case which was 5 lbs over the limit for a checked item. The United Airlines check-in guy let me slide cause I schmoozed him but that could turn into an extra $25 anytime someone decided to enforce that rule. But what are ya gonna do........... -MJ- |

Mark,
Call Texas Case in Stephenville (800-599-5384)and ask for Linda (tell her I sent you). They do a terrific job, great prices. I'm going to see her when I get back in 2 weeks for a couple of things. They have built cases for me in the past, incl Steel. Matter of fact, I recommended them to MSA 2 yrs ago and they are building their cases.

Steel Seat.com http://www.steelseat.com/
originally started out making anvil type road cases including steel guitar cases. I don't know if they would still custom build one.

Thanks boys. After further research I have found this place. They even have an office in the Dallas area. They were just bought out by Anvil, so it's all the same thing. I'm gonna try to drop by there this week and talk to them.

Danny, I just checked out the Texas Case site. Looks pretty good. In fact, I remember seeing their booth at the Dallas guitar show last year. I'm getting a quote from them. thanks.

I think you got it reversed. Calzone owns Anvil and has for several years. I bought a Calzone rack case about 4 years ago and they owned Anvil at that time.
From their web site:
"Calzone's acquisition of Anvil Cases from the ZERO Corporation, a publicly held company, doubled the size of the combined Calzone Companies." |

Calzone used to MFG in Dallas, but now it's all Mfg'd in CT. However, they do have a sales office there. I had them build me a custom case for my Sax a few years ago, only cause TX Case couldn't do it at the time. Good people also, but not as experienced as TX Case in building a Steel Case, I don't think. Be sure to tell Calzone you are a Pro Musician, to get the dealer price... They are about to start manufacturing again here at the Dallas office. The guy told me they will start back in July.

Anvil and Carlos cases are not around anymore to my knowledge. Keal did a nice job on my LDG. I do like the AQnvil style with ball corners and velvet lining. |

I have used Calzone cases for 19" electrical racks and other gak for twenty years. I picked the company after a pretty thorough search. I must have purchased a hundred or more in that time. They build to my specs and I am a satisfied customer. |
