In the 'sometimes ya gotta dream big' department...
When I've had shows in the past that needed both traditional, clean country steel and blaring rock tones I've pretty much always either used rigs made for the clean tones and suffered through the rest or played the rock parts on lap steel through an amp/speaker designed to love that sound.
Anyone have a speaker that you feel truly plays well on both sides of the fence? (Of course, it can also be tough to find a road-worthy amp that's up to both tasks but that's a conversation for another day.) |

The Eminence Double T-12 is a versatile speaker. I use it for clean PSG, distorted lap steel, and it's great for Tele, as well. It's got an upper mid that cuts through without being harsh. I got one for my main PSG rig with Quilter, and bought a second one for my Allen Accomplice tube amp. |

The 80's Carvin GT-12 I have does both well but I have no use for anything other than clean for steel. I changed it out last weekend for a Furlong speaker and intending to sell the Carvin.

Another vote for the EVM 12L... Heavy, but a great speaker.

Duane Allman played through Marshall cabs loaded with D120`s......
I have a double duty amp with a Twin style channel for steel and a `75 Dumble clone channel for overdrive lap steel stuff. Same power amp and speaker, an Eminence EPS15. _________________ Olli Haavisto

If you used a two speaker amp you could install both type speakers and see how that works out.
