1970 Miller Project
Bought this 1970 pull-release Miller as a project to keep the cranium lubricated. Came with 7 pedals but clearly had 8 at one time. Many metal parts seized. Covered with several layers of grit and what look like soot from a fire. Took a bit of time but it’s working with a bit of a goofy copedent for the C6 neck. Alll the changes are there and working now.

Thanks for the suggestion. A lot of the parts were toast and I had to hand fabricate some of the pulls and tap collars and die new rods. One big problem I had was finding shaft collars small enough to fit between the fingers. I had to put extensions on them so that they wouldn’t get in the way of another finger’s movement. I have another Miller project for this winter. I’ll be looking to avoid hand fabrication as much as possible.

What in the world was that pink stuff in the picture? It looks like a bubble gum fungus!
Good work on the guitar!

The pink stuff was some sort of foam pad that was placed underneath the pickups. Probably to add resistance to the screws holding the pickups in place and perhaps to provide some damping as well. Hard to tell. No springs on the hold-down screws so I’m guessing it was to provide leveling of the pickup. There was also a considerable amount of some sort of emulsion, like pitch, around the pickups. Not sure what the function was. Insulation? It took some work to clean the deck and pickups.

And thanks for the encouragement from the folks in the thread. It means a lot to me. I’ve been reading and learning as much as I can from this forum. It’s amazing how much information is shared here. The instrument does sound good. Just not when I play it. I look forward to the next project.
