Aluminium Steel Guitar Fretboards for lap/console steel

Post by Andy Smith »

Hi fellow steelers!

I have produced some aluminium fretboards aimed primarily at lap and console steel guitars and in the style of the old Fender and Rickenbacker fretboards. I currently have 3 styles to choose from:

Stringmaster Style
24.5" scale length for 8 string guitar.

Copied meticulously from my own Stringmaster except that the board is a full length board to work with square nuts rather than the barrel nuts found on an actual Stringmaster. 1/8" would need shaving off the nut end for use on an actual Stringmaster or with a barrel nut.
  • Scale length:24.5"
    Number of frets:31
    Length:519mm
Width:70mm tapering to 59mm at the nut
    Thickness:1.5mm

'Stars'
My own design - 24.5" scale length for 8 string guitar

  • Scale length:24.5"
    Number of frets:31
    Length:520mm
Width:72mm tapering to 67mm at the nut
    Thickness:1.5mm

'Stars and Diamonds'
Based loosely on the Magnatone G65, 22.5" scale length for 6 string guitar.

  • Scale length:22.5"
    Number of frets:29
    Length:465mm
Width:60mm tapering to 57.5mm at the nut
    Thickness:1.5mm
They are all priced at £34.99 with free shipping to the UK and £5 anywhere else.

They can be bought from me direct or through Reverb: https://reverb.com/uk/shop/sugartone-guitars

Please feel free to PM me for further details.

Best regards, Andrew

I recently installed a 22.5" Stars and Diamonds fretboard on an Gibson Ultratone seven string that I picked as a body only at a fleamarket. I am very pleased with the results. The first and seventh string are right where they belong.

Jim,
Just so's ya know, I think all those Valco built guitars (like your Kay) are 23" scale.

The Sugartone fretboard looks great on your Ultratone, Ron. What method did you use to attach it?

Following Ron's lead I installed a Sugartone 22.5" "Stars & Diamonds" fretboard on this rescue Rickenbacher. Looks okay to me. Thanks, Andy!
