I just have a laptop, nothing fancy, Been taking lessons for a couple of years. He is one of the most talented, experienced players out there. Several folks here highly recommend him.

It also helps to understand your intended objectives...what style do you most want to learn? Country, Hawaiian, blues, etc.?
I have a lot of experience with distance learning (Skype, and more often, Google Video Chat/Hangouts) and so I have few reservations recommending that. Took five years of Indian classical lessons that way, and now hoping to start learning Hawaiian steel next year. Technology is pretty cool in what it allows these days!

I live in Burlington WA, and I too am a beginning/intermediate steel player. Super happy to see that two other steel players are in the vicinity! I'll send you both PM's; maybe we can get together.
Also, I have taken lessons at artistworks.com with Andy Hall. He has a whole series of videos on lap steel playing, and his responses to your own videos (which you send to him for feedback) are excellent. I'd highly recommend looking into that.
