Buck Reid !!!!! Lucky Oceans !!! Chuck Lettes!!!!

Post by John Brabant »

Hey Folks:

How many of you are Buck Reid fans? How about Luck Oceans, Asleep at the Wheel's founding steel player? And we all know Chuck Lettes who has been a player and instructor on lap, pedal steel and dobro for over 4 decades! Count me as one big fan. These guys among many others will be all together this coming weekend in Norwalk, CT at the PSGA's annual show. Time to call your friends and plan a road trip or short flight to the NY metro area. Show your support for all these players have brought us with their hard work and dedication. Support the PSGA that has been bringing these amazing shows for more than 40 years.

Another benie, Buck will be teaching an up close interactive E9/C6 class on Saturday November 11 with a concert that Saturday night with twin (and possibly more) steels supporting Jeff DeMaio's family's talented band Gunsmoke. Admission to Buck's ALL DAY class is cheap, just $50. The Sunday main event is only $20. And the Saturday night concert is only $5. Priced to meet our community's pocketbook.

Please show your support for Buck, Lucky (who is flying in from Austrailia just for this show!), Chuck Lettes and the rest of the players. Bring a carload like the old days!! Below are the flyers for the show. See you there for country, (and lots of) C6 swing and jazz steel!

Yes, and don't forget Billy Easton from Nashville and awesome local players, Mike 'Steelonius' Neer, Jim Pitman, Stu Shulman, John DeMaille, and Jack Stanton.

Only happens once a year, so come on up or down this weekend!!

My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I'd hope so John, you're part of the package in more ways than one :)

Plus who has a better beard than you?

Jim, you crack me up. Will you be there this year? Would be great to see you. Maybe its time you did some stand up comedy between sets? Now that would be fun! We could Skype in Herb Steiner. Don't know if he would be a good straight man tho. Could maybe be a roast??!!

I have many nice memories of seeing John D. playing at the Homeport in West Islip in the early 1980s. I remember a heavy set and very young guy (20?) sitting in one night on a song (Rocky Top?) playing a black Emmons doubleneck. He was a pretty new player, circa 1983. Who would that have been John? Do you remember?

Well, I don't think it's me. I never played a black Emmons only my black RusLer. However my beard was a lot darker back then. And, being as far back as 83', I really can't remember all that well. Too many beers and too many long hours.
Was it you, John? Sorry if I can't recall.

i went to the show on Sunday and it was great. I have never seen steel players up close except for once before and it was a delight. Being a novice I was mesmerized. Great back up band of great musicians.
