What are your thoughts regarding the sound differences -- if any -- between the bolt-on D-10 p/p with mica/aluminum necks and the cut tail D10 p/p with mica/aluminum necks? Between the two, which changer do you Emmons players-fans prefer? Thanks for your help. |

I've had several of the cut-tail changers and each one sounded great and stayed in tune. My favorite is one that I have now but it's a wood body with alluminum necks. It's the best tone of any I've heard. I've got a bolt-on changer on one that I play now and really can't tell the difference. I've heard stories about the bolt-on having some tuning issues in hot weather but I've played mine probably more outside than inside and have never had that problem. I'd like to know what the difference is in the building of the two because I can't tell just by looking and tuning. |

I just recently got my 66 bolt on Emmons and its got a bite to it thats hard to explain. I've never owned a cut tail Emmons but my teacher has one and he remarked that this bolt on sounded as good as anything he's ever heard. Wish I could offer a better comparison for you. maybe someone with more experience will give you an opinion.

I have a 67 bolt on and a 73 cut tail (fatback). To my ears I like the bolt on. I've tried different pickups down through the years on both guitars, but IMHO, I prefer the bolt on sound.
I was playing an all pull (not Emmons),,,excellent guitar, stays in tune remarkably well, light weight, but just doesn't have that Emmons sound.
