Profex II

Post by Kyle Strauser »

Ok, I've been trying to do the research on what I will need to do after I make the changes if I buy the parts. Will the changes delete all the factory settings or just custom settings? I don't care about the custom settings, I don't have very many of those and can add those back in but I use some of the factory settings and would hate to lose all those. I don't have the card or access to another Profex. Sorry, I know this has been talked about a lot but I wanted to make sure I understand the process.

Thanks,

Kyle

Good question! Glad you asked.

After the new chip is installed you are guided by the supplied directions to re-initialize the unit. That then stores the factory setting in place for the user settings on the new memory chip. By default the factory setting are stored on the EEPROM chip that resides next to the user memory chip(has a paper tag on it) (called the battery-less mod). The new memory chip does not require battery backup ever.

I actually initialize the chips here first time in an old Bassfex. You will find that the Profex will actually come up with those as the user settings. If you want you can use them, just don't re-initialize the Profex 2. Actually those are nice clean settings and a good place to start adding your own by altering some of those, your choice.

If you have another Profex 2 or Bassfex that is available with the settings you want they can be easily sent to the newly modded Profex 2 via a 5 pin midi cable.

Ok, Great! I'll order both parts for the unit today. I saw on one of your posts that you change pots on the Profex. Do you have an input gain pot? Mine is broken and I would like to change it as well. If you have them let me know how much it is and I will add it to the payment for the other parts if your website will allow me to do that.

Thanks,

Kyle

I only have 2 left in stock and I feel I need to hang on to those.

Peavey should have those available.

Just got in a batch of the newer style battery-less mod. Works great and even easier to install in the socket.

ken I had found on another listing on the forum that you did a mod on the Peavey L A 400 amps I looked on your web sight but didn't see anything on them. Do you have a kit and instructions for that mod?

Thanks so much. I am so glad you are pleased with the mod. :D. The LA 400 is actually my favorite Peavey amp for steel and 6 string guitar. They are awesome!

Found this on in a Pawn Shop $100.00 thought it might make a good backup but after doing your mod kit it may go to the top of the pecking order.
