Rodgers Pedal Steels

Post by Dylan Keating »

Has anyone heard of Rodgers Pedal Steels? There's one for sale on Kijiji in Montreal right now. 12 strings, 4 pedals.

It looks like they were made in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I'm from Alberta but I've never heard of them, although I'm guessing they were from before my time (I was born in 1990) :) I was curious if anyone has owned or played one of these before.

Cheers

Hank Rodgers was a steel player originally from Edmonton who built these guitars. He also lived for many years in Surrey B.C. where he passed a few years ago.

Yes, the Rodgers Brothers were from the Edmonton area. If I remember correctly they were built in the 1960's & '70's era.
Like most pedal steels built in that era, mechanisms have improved immensely & the weight of a pedal steel has been cut 30 to 50%, etc.
If you are new to pedal steel you should consider a S-10, with 3&4...as that is what 90% of the music is played with today.
An old 'out of date' 12 string guitar may only discourage you in the long run, plus you don't know what you're getting????
Just my experience.
Happy Steelin'
