Gaylon Matthews-Newest Georgia Steel Guitar Assoc. Legend

Post by Bill Cunningham »

Today the GaSGA honored our friend Gaylon as our latest Legend member. Here is the bio for the presentation.
---------------------------------------------------
Our 2017 Legend inductee has been playing steel for about 36 years.

Gaylon Matthews was born and raised in Jasper, Georgia. His earliest musical influence, like many, was his dad, Rembert, a banjo player and instrument builder. Gaylon first was a bass player. While listening to another band rehearsing, Gaylon says he became interested in steel guitar listening to another GaSGA member, Scott Kirk. He has been influenced by all the greats as opposed to one particular steel player.

Over the years, he has been able to do some “one offs” with such artists as George Hamilton IV, Johnny Paycheck and Bobby G. Rice.

He has played with local artists included Craig Collins, The Tyler Wails Band, The Lady Luck Band and The Motel Cowboys Band.

In 2004 he went on tour with Sony recording artist Gretchen Wilson. He toured the entire United States. He also performed in many countries including Canada, Germany, Australia, England, Ireland and Sweden.

Television appearances include Super Bowl 39, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, Regis and Kelly, NBC’s Today Show, Grand Ole Opry Live, CMT Music Awards, CMA’s, ACM’s, AMA's, Canadian CMA’s, Australia’s Funniest Home Videos and TV Total in Germany.

During the time with Gretchen he worked with numerous other acts including Big & Rich, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Heart, Keith Urban, Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, Randy Owen, Hank Williams JR, Charlie Daniels, Pat Green, Uncle Cracker, Ronnie Milsap, Junior Brown, Lonestar and many others.

He is currently off the road playing the north Georgia area once again. He put the Motel Cowboys Band back together after about 15 years and changed the name to “The Motel Cowboys Band with Heather Rea.”

He is currently endorsed by Show Pro Steel Guitars.

The Georgia Steel Guitar Association is proud to present the 2017 Legend award to Gaylon Mathews.

Congratulations!
Lee, from South Texas - Down On The Rio Grande

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.
