Steel Jams in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida

Post by Jack Stoner »

Although the Florida Steel Guitar Club is done, at least at Catfish Johnny's, Jack Dougherty and I will attempt to hold a Steel Guitar Jam (NOT the "Florida Steel Guitar Club" jam) at Catfish Johnny's in March and April of this year. We will use the dates that I originally negotiated with Catfish Johnny's Restaurant for the club (2nd Wednesday of the month). Some have questioned Wednesday's but that is the only day of the week that other activities are generally not scheduled at the Restaurant facility.

Jam dates:
March 8
April 12

No guarantee of this going any further than April of this year. I had given up managing the club (with the help of Don Sulesky and Blake Hawkins) after 10 plus years and at age 79 someone else needs to manage any future steel jams at this location.

Sue Bondz has offered to play bass. Sue is the bass picker in our Oxford band. That solves the Bass picker.

Just need Drums and a guitar picker. If I can contact Karl Congdon that will probably take care of the drums.

Just heard from Jr Reich, lead guitar. That just leaves a drummer and as soon as I talk to Karl Congdon that should be settled.

Jr is the lead guitar player in our Oxford band and works at Bondz Music in Wildwood. Jr also plays steel.

1. 640 miles, across I10 and then south on I75. Long way, unless you are coming to Florida for some other reason.

2. John King, bring your steel.

We are set with the backup band. Karl Congdon, who has played drums for about 10 or 12 years at club jams will be with us.

That makes backup band: Karl Congdon Drums, Sue Bondz Bass and Jr Reich Lead Guitar.

Thanks to all.

For the record, I didn't intentionally not ask John King to play bass. Sue, who is the bass player in our Oxford band, had asked before I had even considered finding a band.

Would love to play steel, guitar, bass, or banjo sometimes, but the jam starts too early...I still work a day job & can't make it till after 7.
You might get more people interested if it started a little later.
A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag.

As I previously mentioned, Rich, we have to be packed up and gone by 9PM. Starting later isn't a real option. Over the years we have done what we can.
