Allenwrench help
I seem to have misplaced the allen wrench i use to tune my push-pull emmons . I have looked thru 2 allen wrench sets and have not found the right size . Does any one know the right size ? Can i just pick it up at a hardware store?

For what its worth, I read a tip here a few years ago that worked really well for me. Cut the long side of the allen wrench off about 1 1/2" to 2" long, find or buy a control knob from a guitar or amp, and epoxy (JB weld works great) the straight allen wrench into the knob. I have two or three of these laying around, and it makes them a lot harder to lose, and much easier to use, and you always know its the right size.
Since the wrench is hard, it may have to be cut with an abrasive wheel on a Dremel tool or something similar. I used old knurled metal strat knobs for mine. They work great. I have a vent panel in my vertical rack, and the wrench sticks through the holes perfectly. It just looks like another control knob, and when someone tells you you're too loud, just turn this knob and tell them "there that should be better". LOL

Instead of a control knob, I used a crutch (or cane) tip, obtained very inexpensively from a medical supply store. The tips come with different internal dimensions for different cane diameters, so take the wrench to the store for a fitting. I epoxied the wrench in place. The tips are soft black rubber, with a flat bottom, so it can stand on whatever without scarring what it is standing on.

Or you could get one of these Miniature Electronics Hex Drivers:Cut the long side of the allen wrench off about 1 1/2" to 2" long, find or buy a control knob from a guitar or amp, and epoxy (JB weld works great) the straight allen wrench into the knob.
Or a set of these ball-end drivers:
And you'd be covered for just about everything. I got mine at McMaster-Carr.
There are a couple of hardware stores on Canal Street that probably have them. I bought some specialty tools at Eastern Tool and Supply (428 Broadway, 212-925-1006) a long time ago, but I don't know if they do walk-in business anymore. They might have them at Kove Brothers Hardware on 21st and 7th Ave.

I did one thing with my tuning wrench to keep it handy. I glued a small magnet from the inside of a used electric toothbrush head(SonicCare) on the end of the handle(CA glue) and took a small, flat piece of steel and put a small piece of double stick carpet tape on it and stuck it to the top of my steel out of the way. The magnet holds very well and I've always got my wrench handy when I need it. Some leave their tuning wrench on the nylon tuners. My wrench kept falling off, so that's the reason I put it on top off to one side.
