Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if a Twin Reverb with upgraded Eminence Travis Toy speakers might improve the amp for pedal steel playing?
Thanks,

I really don't know how you can improve on a Twin Reverb with JBL speakers. |

While I can't answer your question about the TT12s, I have a 40 year old twin that sounds great with it's stock 'blue label' (made by CTS), I also use extension cabs with 15" JBL (E130s and K130s) and BW 1501s in a big venue/outdoor gig, and they all sound great.. different, but great! That said, is there something wrong with the speakers that are in it? What are you hoping to achieve?
So I guess my un-helpful answer is: It'll sound different! So would a new pick up or a new pre-amp tube! Welcome to the madness! |

My 1973 silverface Twin is converted to a head cabinet and adjustable bias. I haven't tried it with two TT12s, but I have ran it with just one for short periods of time. I really like that speaker. I also use it with my Webb. I have played through Eminence EPS-12c, JBL K120's and Telonics. I like the TT12 at least as well, maybe more than the Telonics and JBLs. That's a GASP, almost blasphemy for me, because I really like the Telonics and JBLs. Of course, that's just my ears talking. |

I recently picked up a pair (actually 3 now) TT12s that I put in a separate 2x12 Peavey cabinet. I power these with a Twin Reverb Silverface amp. They sound GREAT! They are very sweet sounding and do not have the "EECK" factor Travis Toy talks about with other neo speakers.
Due to the circumference of the TT12s, you may have to modify the baffle to make them fit. I considered this, but ended up just putting the TT12s in the Peavey cabinet I had sitting around the house. The Twin has Celestion Vintage 130s in it now. These sound OK for steel too, but they are not really a steel speaker.
