String spacing on 12 string Msa Superslide

Post by Jeff Metz Jr. »

I am looking for the string spacing on an MSA SS 12 string. I am also curious to know if they are tapered from nut to the bridge or straight across.
I found a measurement of 0.284 inches but Im not sure how to measure that with a Ruler and I don't own calipers.
THanks

something like THIS may be useful to you. May not be usable for 12 string applications but perhaps it will if it will accommodate the neck width.

If you've got the guitar in front of you, measure the distance from the innermost string to the outermost string, then divide by 11 (the number of strings minus one). Comparing measurements at the nut and the bridge will tell you if if the spacing is tapered.

Otherwise, 0.284" is about 9/32". A little larger than 1/4" and quite a bit smaller than 3/8".

thanks guys. that string ruler looks great,

I don't have a superslide but I am building a similar steel.
I figured they have their string spacing set for optimum playability so I would set mine to somewhere similar.
I have realized that I really don't have a choice in the matter as I have a 12 string key head with a Roller nut on it. and I have a 12 string true tone pickup with its specific pole spacing so I will be going with a tapered string spacing from 4/16" at nut to 11/32" at bridge. Which I realize is quite a large taper. I hope it plays ok this way.
Thanks for the help.
