Caught Bob Dylan & his Band last night here in Jackson, Mississippi, and the show contained pretty much wall-to-wall pedal steel. I believe the player is Donnie Herron (correct me if I'm wrong), and he was amazing.
He played lap steel on one tune, and fiddle on one encore, but I think he played PSG the rest of the time, including between songs as Dylan might transition from one instrument to another - but not noodling, truly playing instrumental breaks that connected the songs well (sometimes together with other band members).
There were many original songs, both new and old (mostly in non-traditional arrangements), as well as several jazz standards. The PSG was a great part of every one of them.
Dylan is one of my personal favorites, but the steel playing was almost worth the price of admission.
All I can say is WOW. _________________ Click here for the Index to Mickey Adams's YouTube video lessons

Thanks for the YouTube link, John. I notice that Donnie's playing an Emmons p/p student guitar. Man, those guitars have awesome tone!
Keep on pickin'!

Don Herron was the steel player for BR5-49 for quite a few years before he started touring with Bob Dylan. In early 2001, BR5-49 played at the Opry at the Ryman, playing a cover version of Anne Murray's 1983 hit, "A Little Good News", which featured Don playing a Zumsteel D-10 |

Cool. I only ever saw Don play non-pedal with BR5-49. |

From where I was sitting, it looked like a GFI.
Here are some pics -- not by me though (there was a very strict no-camera rule, and a guy by me got thrown out by the cops for violating it). I found these online, and they appear to be from the same tour.
