I don't know this particular pedal (so why is he posting? I hear you say) but I'm going to guess plate and see if others say the same. That's what I prefer on my cheap Behringer, and when I was an engineer I used a real AKG plate on violin sections.

Hall or plate? My Grail had spring, hall, and flerb.
I used to set the knob to sound good on uptempo songs set on spring, and moved it to hall for ballads.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

I use the spring setting on my HG. It sounds more "vintage" to my ear and I like that.

spring

Post by Nathan Guilford »

Spring for me. I've never played through a real reverb tank, but I bet I'd like it. I've been using the MXR reverb and like the spring setting a lot. The only thing is - you gotta watch out combining delay with the slapback spring sound. It can get overdone quickly. I'll switch over to "epic" for more ambient sounds (just filling in background) but I don't know what that type of reverb is modeling.

My Holy Grail Plus has settings for Spring, Hall, Room, and Flerb. I currently have it set on "Hall".

I use "spring". It turns my blackface Fender Princeton into a Princeton Reverb. :D

Holy Grail Settings

I use the hall setting at around 10:00 most of the time. But every once in a while I'll change to spring if I need to dry it up some.

I use spring, Holy Grails are excellent reverb units, very dependable, never quits.

The flerb also sounds great in the hands of a good guitar player:
