Hey, Cor. I don't own a Rains myself, yet. But i've been out to hear Gary Carpenter( a very good Texas player) play his 3 or 4 times and his plays great and sounds even better than it plays. The tone is great. I would say an exellent guitar and getting better. |

I've played the Rains Steel quite a lot at Gary Carpenter home. In fact, we've compared several other top steel guitars side by side the Rains and I must admit, that Rains Steel has really impressed me! Great sustain, super tone and has a punchy yet sweet tone!
I'm very excited about a new model that will be coming out down the line. Just played Bobby Greens SD-10 a couple of days ago and almost wouldn't let Bobby take out of my house! Defintely worth trying. |

I own number 3. The third built by Bob Rains. I played on Bob's one night and was hooked and ordered one the next day. It is my favorite steel of the 50 or so I have played and owned over the last 30 years. It has a feel and sound of its own. Bob Tuttle just got his new one a while back. I havent had a chance to see it or hear it yet, but I did see it while it was being made at Rains.Mine is a blue D 10, 8 and 5. Steels are like soft drinks, what may taste good to one person may not be the desired flavor of another, but if you get a chance to play on a Rains try it out for yourself, chances are you will love the sound. Mine is the blue one that Buddy Emmons is playing in the picture on the Rains website. The last time I talked to Bobby Rains he was backed up on orders, he's got a great guitar at a great price. |

I picked up my Rains the last week in November. It is a black SD-10 with 4 pedals and 5 knee levers. I love this guitar. I've owned quite a few different guitars (not as many as Doyle Mitchell) over the last 50 years, but this one has the sound I've always dreamed about. It sounds very clean, but full. I've got a feeling I'll be playing the Rains for a long, long time, Lord willing. Cor, I talked to Bob Rains on the phone yesterday, and he said he'll be shipping yours very soon. I know you will enjoy it. |

Hey Bob, the reason I had so many guitars was that I kept trying to sound like you and finally figured out it was the player and not the guitar's fault, no, really the reason I had so many is because of my bussiness, I took a lot of these on trade for resale purposes only, but it did give me a chance to play on a lot of different steels through the years, my steel of choice has been the black 1986 Emmons LeGrand that I played up until I had the Rains built last March. The Rains is now my favorite choice and will probably be the last steel I own, this one will probably outlast me. I am glad you like yours, it sure is pretty, maybe I can hear you play it before too long. You should come back and be on our show again and show it off a little. See you, Doyle |

okay Sidney,
no problem i know we have al our favorite brand.
like to know if there are more Rains owners, players here on the forum who will share there experience on the Rains
because in my opinion and that's also personal there is nothing that can compare to the Rains steelguitar.
it is top notch !!! in sound aswell in workmanship. www.rainssteelguitars.com

Hello,
My name is Larry Toliver, and I own number 2 of Bobby Rains Pedal Steel Guitars. I have had it 1 year now, and I love it. I just played it at the Phoenix Steel show and got many complements on the tone. I have a D-10 with 9 floors and 8 knees.

Hey Larry, Bob Rains told me there was going to be another steel jam in Abilene on Sunday , Feb. 13. Will you be there this year? Sure did enjoy your picking last year. I think Bob Tuttle is planning on being there, I hope so , havent had a chance to see his new one since it was completed. I will probably bring mine in case there is some long legged guys who want to take a Rains for a drive since mine is built two inchs taller than normal. I know I cant be the only long legged picker around. I wish I could steal some of your speed picking licks but my fingers just wont move that fast. |
