When I was a kid in the 1970's I always enjoyed hearing Ray's Opry spots while riding home with my dad from our Saturday night gig. It's been nice to hear him on the Opry a few times in recent months. He sounds as good as ever. I played steel guitar behind him once about 20 years ago. He was a pleasure to be around and to work with. His off stage personality was just as easy going and laid back as his singing style.

Weldon was a great player and a super nice guy. Tommy had some big shoes to fill and he filled them very well, such a great player too.

Thanks so much fellas.
Weldon could never be replaced, as his style was unique and all his own. He was always kind, nurturing and encouraging to me since our first meeting in 1970 or 71 when I was 10 or 11 years old, up until his passing. Weldon was and still is on my list of heroes and masters of the instrument.
When I was asked to be the staff steel guitarists for the Grand Ole Opry, I immediately called my friend Weldon. He was ever such the gentleman, explaining why he chose to exit his position and enlightened me of changes in music, etc he didn't feel comfortable with. Weldon encouraged and prompted me to take the position. He told me, I was destined and the best candidate. Weldon in essence gave me his blessing and even recommended me to management. I'll never forget Weldon Myrick as a master of steel guitar, hero and true friend😊

Such nice and respectful comments from Tommy about Weldon. Weldon was one of my favorites also. I grew up on Weldon because I heard more live country music on the Opry than anywhere else.
BTW: I saw Tommy on TV last night and his playing was so clean and tone was so good. Tommy is definitely on my list of favorites players and good attitude guys.
