This is a big drag... hearing of Chris' passing. I liked Chris very much. As far as this Forum goes and like others have said, he was always truthful.

My deepest sympathies and condolences go out for all his friends and family.

We have lost a significant presence on the forum. There were nuggets of gold in Chris's posts. To all his friends and family I send my condolences and my hope that you will find all the inner strength you need at a difficult and trying time.

if you have been posting on this site for any amount of time - you probably got some kind of smack from chris - you could sense he was a good guy with strong opinions and was there to help.
i consider him one of the founding members here and his wealth of knowledge will be sadly missed

This is very sad and shocking news. I have been away from the Forum for a short while and am now seeing this. I am deeply saddened. We all know that Chris Ivey was all heart beneath his sometimes terse demeanor. As so many have said, Chris really made the Forum fun. So what the heck happened? Seems he was just posting a couple weeks ago. RIP Chris , my fellow POCO fan. I will truly miss seeing your posts.

I did not know him well, but he had posted on my topics a few times.
He struck me as a Man who said exactly what he was thinking, and was a straight shooter. I will miss his subtle humor and comments.
God bless him, and condolences to his family.

I just found out now about his passing. This is very sad news, and he will surely be missed. He had a way with words that was unique to him.

What a worthwhile presence now absent from The Forum. Wish I'd met Chris face to face rather than only through his posts and emails but am glad we at least communicated those ways.

Sorry to hear this, I always enjoyed his commentary. I think he had a rough go the last couple of years so at least he is at peace now and his suffering is over.

This has been a tough one, Chris is the guy who helped me so many times in my quest to learn this instrument...
Like dumping a coupe dozen steel guitar albums on me to listen to so I would understood who the players were and the history of the steel guitar. So many times he helped me.

Beyond just a friend, he was my "Brother from another Mother"

I wish more people could have met him in person, all the things I have read here paint a pretty vivid and accurate picture of Chris, he was such a great guy, always honest in his words, you never had to guess what his opinion was, he was bound to tell you!

I can't recall how many times we've hung out over the years, playing steel guitar, going out to eat, going to see his shows, hanging out with him and his awesome other half Terry...I have more pictures I'll post later.

This is one person who probably had the most personal influence on my playing out of anybody. I for one, will think of Chris often, he made quite the impact on me over the years, both as one of my best friends and as a teacher of steel guitar.

I had traded emails with Chris the Thursday before the 4th, he was in his usual good mood, joking like he always did.

I wish we would have got together that weekend.

I have been off the Forum for a few weeks, and this is the first thing I read. What a shock. He knew his stuff, and I can appreciate a contrarian. I am one myself at times. Necessary in the search for Truth.

... I just turned around, and... he was gone.

Like Rich I've been off the forum for a while and shocked to see this today. Never met Chris but enjoyed his ability to drive a discussion.

So Sad to hear this news. Chris was a good soul. He dished out some tough love but thats all it was.

I was playing a gig at a casino and a band from Sacramento was playing there also. I asked them if they knew Chris and they said "Yes, great guy, great musician", so I called him up and we chatted on the phone. He was as friendly as a man could be. RIP Chris

it would be a nice nod to chris, if the original poster would consider editing the title and use lower case, instead of upper case letters. as many of you know, chris never bothered to capitalize.

ie: chris ivey instead of Chris Ivey
