best crying pedal steel in song?

Too many to call any one of them No. 1, but Papa John's solo in "Look At Us" was the reason I started playing steel, and that song was also the song played for the "first dance" at our wedding reception. It is still pretty special and always will be to us.

Anything with steel in it that Tammy sang puts tears in my eyes, partly for the sadness I feel for her life's tragedies. So sad an ending for, in my opinion, the first lady of country music, all time.

Johnny Bush`s orginals of "When My Conscious Hurts The Most", "I`ll Go To A Stranger" and "Right Back In Your Arms Again". I do not know who played the steel on the orginals. Sounds like Dicky, but it may be Weldon,Jimmy,or Buddy.

Speaking of Johnny Bush, his version of "That's All That Matters To Me" is a clinic of crying steel guitar. I'd guess Dickie Overbie or maybe Rick Price. Perhaps Herb Steiner would know for sure.

Another great song with cryin' steel is, "Tonight Cowboy You're Mine" by Joey & Rory, which appeared on their first record "The Life Of A Song". It features Mike Johnson on steel and Mike plays a crying steel solo after the second verse and changes the key.
