Which amplifiers were the choice of early steel players?

Steel guitar amplifiers, effects, etc.

Erv,
My first steel amp was a Late Forties Gibson BR-1. Two 6L6s. I really wasn't too bad. Then I borrowed a Vibrasonic. The earlier SS amps were quite different from todays. They really sounded more like tube amps. I had a Ric Transonic 100 that I sold to George Bradfute when he was with Webb Wilder. It sounded like tubes. I also used a Lab Amp that sounded like tubes. Bought a Vegas, and was very disappointed with it's sterile(to me) sound. Now awaiting a Dr. Z Surgical Steel. Best amp I've ever heard!

Add Sho-Bud Compactra to the list.

The Compactra has some features taken from the Butcher Paper List Standels .

What did they mostly use in the 50's? Fender Deluxes?
