I'm a beginner with a Carter Starter.....along with the pedal steel, received a package with a cover of "Carter Starter String Set for Pedal Steel Guitar". Inside was a collection of Ernie Ball electric guitar strings (although the correct gauges). Have ordered actual pedal steel strings, but will these electric guitar strings work on the pedal steel? Thanks.

Only some pedal steel strings are different, and then only some gauges (the lock twist on some strings will be shorter than normal). For the most part, strings are strings.
Ernie Ball, D'Addario, GHS, Curt Mangan, et cetera all just package regular strings in a steel guitar set.
Play and enjoy.

Thanks, Lane. I actually put the 3rd string on before I looked at the package.....it fits and seems to sound fine.......

Even in my limited time playing I've used Ernie Ball, D'Addario & GHS all with success. Also British-made Rotosound which are very good and long-lasting. Have you heard of them over there?

I broke a whole package of six 0.011 regular electric guitar stings once trying to get one to stay at pitch on my PSG at a gig. I was told by the manufacturer that the tempering process is different for PSG regarding this particular string. From then on, I always used strings intended specifically for PSG. It was a bear playing the rest of the night without the high G#.
