My Attempt at Photography 2016 SWSGA Steel Guitar Show

Post by Bill D. Terry »

Here are more pictures of the 2016 Phoenix show. I apologize for only getting pictures of a small portion of the players...no disrespect intended for all of the wonderful players that I didn't get their pictures taken.

Many thanks to Bill Tauson and Guy Beaver for their guidance again this year...give me another 10 years and I might figure this camera thing out.

These pictures are linked to my Flickr Photo page and are fully downloadable for personal use if desired.

At the top right of the main page, there is an icon for full screen slideshow if you so desire. You can also click on an individual picture (full screen if you wish), and scroll thru all of the pictures that way.

Let me know if you have any problems or questions. Another great show in Phoenix....hope to see more people next year!

Bill,

Lots of smiles and great shots. The schedule keeps Guy and I running so your filling in with these personal touches is a great help. It captures why these shows are so much fun! Thanks so much for everything!

Fabulous photos, Bill! Like I told Guy, you make it seem like playing pedal steel is actually a fun thing to do, rather than just one of the many forms that obsessive-compulsive disorder can take... ;)

Fantastic photos Bill! Beautiful color you got on these. You're definitely ready to put somebody out of a job! Actually, Bill & Bill Photography has a nice ring to it.

You guys let me know if I can do anything to help you out next year.

Thank you for sharing these. It's great to see all the different perspectives on this excellent show. There is so much going on (often at the same time) that there really are a thousand different stories to tell, verbally, photographically or otherwise.

Keep up the great work!

Marvelous tight closeup shots, Bill!! You must have used a 400 mm (or longer) lens? Thanks for these great shots. Jim H.

I sincerely thank all of you for your comments, and for taking the time to look at the pictures...don't forget to look at the pictures taken by the real pros...Guy Beaver and Bill Tauson.

Jim R. Harrison, I used an 85mm prime lens, so I had to position myself for each shot. I figure that Guy Beaver and Bill Tauson had the big telephoto shots covered.

Outstanding

Dear Bill - Outstanding Photos and Presentation. You should include one picture of yourself. You did all that work, got the camera guys, the sound crew, all the big name players, make us feel like we were there. How about one picture of the photographer !?

Love how you seemingly reached out and grabbed facial expressions without hesitation. They are ALIVE and KICKIN' in all your shots!! Awesome!!!

Bill, really super photos! What was your camera and lens? What ISO were you generally shooting at, and f/stop? I've shot many show photos, it's not easy!

John,
Thank you so much! Your comments and all of the others make this fun instead of hard work.

I have a Sony A77 (a semi-pro camera) with an 85mm Sony lens. I used an iso of 1600 on a lot of the stage shots with an f stop between 2.4 and 4.8. Guy Beaver told me before I started shooting that I probably wouldn't go below 2.8 or so and I took his advice. That Sony lens will go to 1.4.

Great photos Bill! Really - one of the best photo albums I've seen for this type of event.

And it's great to see Bobby Black back in action. 8)

Hi Bill, Thank you so much for the beautiful photos of the show. These are really treasures and very much appreciated! You, Guy and Bill T. give us so many memories to keep of the steel shows. It wouldn't be the same without having these to look back on. Best wishes, Darcie & Darrell
