Can't Reach knee levers

Post by Randy Major »

After selling my Emmons PP 5 years ago I finally decided to get back into playing. I bought a D10 built by Sam Lewis in Conway Arkansas. It is a real nice guitar with amazing sustain, (poplar body), but I can't reach a couple of the KLs.

Does anyone sell some type of add-on so the lever is closer to the front?

Just buy or make a couple of knee lever flags. You'll just
have to drill and tap the knee levers to attach them.

GFI sells nice flags with set-screws for $10 each...I have drilled another hole and threaded it between the stock screws to extend the lever 2"..Larry

Randy, have you contacted Sam and asked him about it? He seems like an approachable person, at least he was when we emailed each other. Perhaps there's a way to adjust the levers to your liking?

Sam and I do stay in touch. He's a great guy and builds a really nice guitar.

I had the same problem myself for a while and realized the seat I was using wasn't sitting me upright enough to contact the levers good. Got me a real seat now and good to go, but the flags seem like the hot ticket.

I'm short and I've had Jeff Surratt put all these extender things on my knee levers, especially the verticals. Recently, I've gone to shorter legs and rods and boy, I love it and recommend it.

Thanks guys for all the great suggestions. I'm too tall for most steels but kind of sit at an angle making the knees a little tricky. I replaced all the rods with longer ones and raised the guitar clearance to 27 1/2 inches. I also made some flags for the knee levers and am really enjoying the guitar now. I mentioned how Sam Lewis' guitars seem to sustain forever. This thing also has stayed in tune to the cent this entire time. Sam and I will get together this Spring to tweak the RK and add another. Thanks for your help.
