Hoping someone can give me direction.. Just bought a used Stage One to leave at the rehearsal studio and when I set it up the first time, the RKR would only come down to about 8 o'clock (with the guitar set up and standing)from the folded position when it would engage and lower the 2nd string about 3 1/2 tones (Eddie Van Halen dive bomb) I backed of the allen screw in the endplate until it lowered only to the D, but it still engaged at the same 8 O'clock position. If you were to fold the lever all the way down it put your leg in between the levers, not only would the 2nd string be lowered to the D, but the lever would snap back against your leg and try to return up towards the body. Anyone have an idea to cure? I have not touched the dreaded red tuning nut, but that doesn't mean the person who had it before me didn't..
Thanks! |

problem #1 ...possibly owned by an idiot before you.
(or something dislodged during shipping)
you or someone will have to look at the linkage from the lever to the changer. it sounds as if something may be out of place. it is logical, however. |

Is there a set screw to lock the lever on the axle? Some pics wouldn't go amiss. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Jack, sorry your having a problem. The steel Is new. A student traded it to me for lessons. From what he told me he only set it up once before he got his Fessy. I only set it up once to see if everything worked. I never even plugged it into an amp, but I thought everything was working ok. I never adjusted anything. If you would call Doug Earnest,(the builder)I'm sure he can tell you what to do Or send it back to me and I'll fix it. Or if you would send me a phone number maybe we could do it over the phone. I'm sure it's something simple.
BTW Chris jumping to conclusions and calling people Idiots is like the pot calling the kettle black. _________________ Custom Rittenberry SD10

On another note: if this steel has not been completely tuned and levers set up it could be that tuning nut needs adjusted. That's what it's there for and you won't hurt anything by doing so. Also make sure something isn't stuck in the changer. _________________ Custom Rittenberry SD10

Chris
I couldn't honestly say. As I said I never plugged in to an amp. I set it up and took some pix and put in the case.

I'm guessing something got bumped in shipping. Someone with experience and an Allen wrench will probably set it right tout suite. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

The knee lever mount is missing the white nylon stop on the rear apron of the guitar.
Jack, I sent you an email. It's a simple problem to correct. |

Thank you, Doug Earnest! How's that for customer service, and I really wasn't even a customer!
Bill, you made it clear when I bought it that it really hadn't been your guitar, but thanks for the input.
I figured it was something relatively easy to fix..
Lane & Chris, thanks for your input. You do keep thing interesting around here, Chris! |

You are welcome Jack.
As I said in my email to Jack, the knee lever mounts are really the only weak point on a Stage One and are not a problem so long as one knows what to look for and how to deal with it. It is not a frequent problem but does come up occasionally.
The mount can be bent if you bump the knee lever when getting under the guitar or in shipping. The knee lever mount engages the white nylon stops on the rear apron and of course if it misses the stop you have a problem.
If this is the case you simply bend the lever mount back to the correct position. It really is not flimsy, but it can be bent under just the right circumstances. A steel guitar, while being a mechanical gadget, is still a somewhat delicate musical instrument.
We put a divider in the case to keep the leg pouch and pedal rack secure during transport. Sometimes people discard this not knowing any better, and then problems can occur when the instrument is transported. A different style of case adds weight and quite a bit of cost. You can't have it all on a tight budget.
Maybe this will be helpful to some Stage One owners in the future. |

Thanks Doug, for addressing this. It was shipped with the divider. If the bracket came off it could possibly be in the case. Me and the guy at Fed Ex made sure it was packed very well.
Note: Jack don't forget I put 1000.00 insurance on the steel. _________________ Custom Rittenberry SD10

Almost sent you a panicked email a month or so after I'd received my StageOne for the very same problem - I had banged the knee lever when sitting down. Started taking pics for you, but then I noticed one of the knee levers was not aligned like the others. Just carefully pulled it back and it's been fine ever since. Was a scary moment, but only a moment, and I knew I could reach out to you if I couldn't figure it out. |

It happened to me too where the lever went past the stop. Can't remember which lever it was but at the time I thought "Hey, this is cool!" I enjoyed raising the string higher for a while then reluctantly bent the lever back |
