I've played a couple of carbon fiber acoustic bass guitars and they do sound good. I'm not convinced of the price, but I've had enough necks change (even if only slightly) with weather changes that I can more than see the advantage for touring musicians and those who play outdoors.
Carbon fiber has been around for a while, but compared to wood it's still in it's infancy. As may woods become harder to get and CF tech gets better expect to see alot more of them.
Interestingly classical string players can be among the most conservative in terms of gear, but carbon fiber bows are very well established and accepted and there's a growing number of carbon fiber classical instruments. Classical instruments and bows also react to humidity and temperature in ways that would make guitarists shudder.
A good bow is extremely expensive and the best bows are still wood, but when you can get a carbon fiber bow that is extremely reliable/durable, plays great and costs half of a similar wood bow it becomes quite attractive.
Eventually carbon fiber guitars will come down in price. Then watch out!

The other thing that is funny is why do people keeps saying 3K?

(ps DONT SUPPORT GUITAR CENTER)
most of their guitars are between 1500-2500
look I've got no horse in the game with Graphite guitars just find it funny when people completely discount something because its different.. and I feel that this board has WAY too much of that.
Like I said before.. would I trade my Gibson for a Graphite guitar if I could only have one guitar? No.. but my Rainsong sounds GREAT and its a dream to travel with and have as a tool to take out on hot or cold days and not have to worry about leaving in a car... I LOVE that guitar.

One of the other main advantages is that Carbon Fiber guitars are more resistant to change in tuning cause by temperature change. It you have ever played an acoustic at an outdoor gig in the summer you know what I am talking about. These guitars are much more resitant to temp and humidity changes.
