Koa is a GREAT tonewood. I've got a spruce top koa body dreadnaught, built by a local luthier (and good friend), Mitch Keown. It sings!

Hi Guys; I don't know if it is solid, but from what I can see it is Koa on the inside, and the grain seems to follow the outside pattern. Could be Koa plies or ??? Very clean, no dents or scratches. Very nice for 32 years old. Hope this helps.

My dad has the VERY same guitar! He was never a musician, but he kept the guitar because my grandfather, his father-in-law, gave the guitar to him after swapping it out with an old Kay archtop that he had (which at that time, was virtually worthless, and probably not the best guitar to learn to play on)...I have a J45 and HD28 now, but still love that old Alvarez....exotic looking and played good....all of my uncles used to say when they'd play it, that it was one of the only guitars they'd seen that could sound really good even with a pair of worn out old guitar strings. Good luck with the sale!

There are a couple of Alvarez acoustic guitars with the 5040 model name. At least 2 different versions, some that are NOT Koa wood and workmanship is not as high quality. This is the anniversary model that is made of Koa wood. Very nice guitar. Price dropped to $300 plus shipping.
