Has anyone staggered knee levers, in either direction on the right knee? I have been thinking about putting a change there but how much trouble I would have with the volume pedal, I don't know. Has anyone done this? I need some feedback before I go to work doing something I may later regret and have to change. Thanks.

I have 2 RKR levers on my GFI. It's difficult for me to move the right cheek in and out without screwing up the volume pedal.
But it's easy to do with the left knee. |

I have three levers on that knee
RKl..RKR..RKV.I think it depends on how smooth your kneelever works.
But it can be done IMO

Staggered knee levers are where you place 2 levers on the same knee going in the same direction but one is located more to the front or bacck of the guitar and a little to the left of the other lever. For example, I have 2 left knee levers going to the left. My main lever is located toward the front (where the E9th neck and logo are) of the guitar and the other is located more toward the back of the guitar and a couple of inches to the left of the main lever. I have to move my knee back toward my body to hit the second lever, thus missing the main lever. Wish I could post a picture for you.

I tried having two LKL's and couldn't even get the hang of that. I kept hitting the wrong one.
Working the right knee levers in conjuction with the volume pedal is hard enough. I wouldn't want to even attempt to add another movement into that mix. |

I have two staggered RKL levers - the one closest to me raises the 2nd string from C# to D/D# w/a half stop. The other one lowers my 5th string from B to Bb. I also have two staggered LKL levers - the one closest to me raises my 4th & 8th strings from E to F and the other one lowers my 6th stribg G# to F#. They took a little trial and error concerning the exact placement, angles and lever shape but now it's second nature to me. -MJ- |

I have two RKL's on all my steels. I didn't really have any trouble getting used to them, and I don't think they affect my volume pedal use, I normally don't move the volume pedal much when I'm using them. The spacing is critical though to minimize movement. I had to adjust the locations a few times to get them to feel right. The top RH picture on this page of the Fessenden site shows the bottom of RH end of my Fessenden guitar.

John.
Strange isn't it?I think that i will have problems vice versa.I build this guitar this way because i had the same set-up on my Sho-Bud Proffesional a couple of years ago and i realy liked it back than.Right now i have the same on the left knee as i have on the right knee.LKR LKV LKL and RKR RKV RKL.
Could be that i am adding a 7th lever but i am not sure about that right now.But if i do it only can be a staggered lever
I think that it's a matter of getting used to.

1-On staggered levers, which do you think of as the "normal" one, and which one as the "added one" (feel-wise)... near or far?
2-Anyone using staggered V's?

I recall David Wright using two verticals on the left side. They were not staggered though. One came from the left side and the other came from the right side. It looked like a great idea. You just rocked your knee a little from side to the other to get the desired lever. I think he had that on one of his MSA's. David ole buddy if you are listening could you jump in and explain what you did or show us a pic?

I hear that 2 side-by-side V's make for a too-wide distance between LKL and LKR.

I had a push-pull Emmons with 2 right knee moving left knee levers and 2 right knee moving right knee levers. Jimmie Crawford built it for me. Sort of a Crawford cluster but on the right side instead of the left side. It worked very nicely. |

You could be right Dean but of course David is a terrific player and he had no problems with that setup. Hopefully he will see this and respond.

Dean - I have 2 side by side verts on my left knee and they're no problem.Unlike David,I have both of mine coming in from the left and one has to be sort of an bizarre "Z" shape to clear the other one. Next time you come down to the club, come on up and take a good look at it. The way they're lined up,it doesn't cause any more distance between my other levers than normal. I once tried having staggered inner and outer left verticals on my Sierra and it's just too difficult to get to one without hitting the other one - plus you also have to stagger the height and that makes one too high and one too low - so side by side is the only way to get two left knee verts.
At present,I have 8 pedals and 9 knee levers crammed onto that little single-wide keyless U-12 Excel and they're all very easy to get to.

I have two RKL's, along with staggered doubles on both LKL and LKR.
Dean, on my RKL, the inside is the main one. On the LKL, the outside is the main, and on the LKR, the inside is the maain one. |

I have 2 RKR.
Front RKR 1&7 F#-G#
Rear RKR 8 E-F#
The physical location and movement of the staggered levers have to be well planned to facilitate easy access. Consider both sitting location and physical placement of knee levers.
Easiest access is when sitting right in the middle of left/right knee levers.
It does take a little getting used to not changing the volume level but I seldom need to switch quick back and forth between the two RKR levers.
I have 7 knee-levers located like this:
Looking from above, down through the guitar.
