Sounds a lot like my '81 Super Pro. Congrats! First thing to do is order upgraded knee-lever brackets from Michael Yahl. They are the achilles heel of this model. Very easy to replace, and you won;t have to worry about a knee lever falling to the floor in the middle of a gig.
Enjoy! |

Congrats ! Nice axe, As you know this is the last iteration of Sho Bud manufacturing, thin pedals, changed key head and the multi hole pullers. This updated changer and design I believe was introduced late 70's, 76, 77 or so and was carried thru to the end. Some of the parts used during this time were a bit " questionable" but the good news is they can be obtained thru Michael Yahl should you ever require one.
One thing not obvious is the extended key head under the fret board which offers more rigid stability to the Steel. I was told this was a Paul F senior design. Should you ever have to remove the key heads, you must remove the fret board ( fret marker covers) to gain access to the screws.
Enjoy it !

After playing this guitar I find that the knee levers aren't to my liking they are thin and aren't to comfortable on my knees , I was thinking about adding some extenders (paddle ) to bring them out a bit more to my fitment , pedal action is a bit stiff a lot stiffer than the MSA I had before, maybe that's because its a Double neck , the MSa was a single neck. The guitar plays great and sounds beautiful and there is no hum at all, the vertical knee is not to my liking either I have to lift my leg off the floor 3 inches to even hit it and that aint gonna work to well, gotta come up with some idea to fix that somehow .Its still a beautiful machine , horn or guitar . thanks for the info Tony. |

Russel, the LARGE body Sho Buds for sure have awkward knee lever positioning, especially for smaller people. I have used clear tubing from Lowes over the levers to assist. Maybe give it a try. _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

Russel, the action on a super pro should not be stiff, unless someone purposely set it up that way. It's possible that the changers need to be cleaned out; a build up of dirt etc. could be hindering the action there. More likely, the position of the pull rods needs some changing. Attaching the rods to the hole on the bellcranks that are closer to the cross shafts under the guitar, and through the holes farther from the changer axle at the pick up end will make changes long and easy. |

I'm not sure if this would help, but I bought a Shobud LDG, which I believe had the same knee levers as yours. Apparently the previous owner found them uncomfortable as well.
He took replacement golf club handles, and slipped them over the levers. They slipped on easy and stayed on, and we're very comfortable on the knees. |

Thank you all for the replys , Im working on a solution for the knee levers , I made 5 extension paddles one for each lever only thing now its the vertical lever that needs worked out , all levers( not the first lever ) needed to come toward me and down a bit, Got that figured out, vertical needs to come down at the least 2 1/2 inches, When I play the guitar I like to set back a bit and not right on top of the instrument, anyways thank you for suggestions .Russ |
