You will get lots of advice from experienced players, but here's a beginner's perspective while you're waiting.
C6 gives you close-harmony 4-note chords, so it's a question of how to play four notes with three picks. The main options are:-
1. pick the top two and rake the lower two with the thumb
2. leave out the second lowest note leaving an implied chord
3. cheat and use four picks
I cheat, or use option 2 for a lighter sound. If you have more patience than me, option 1 is the Emmons way.
There are also the 9,6,4 and 8,5,3 grips which are fun and distinctive. Enjoy the ride! Get the Emmons Basic C6 course and check out Herb Steiner's site. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

4 picks is common I believe with a lot of non-pedal tunings for more complex chords. |

Apart from playing four-note chords, one really big benefit I find with the fourth pick is for the 6,5,3 grip (major chord without the 6th) or 7,6,4 (minor no 7th) where I use thumb, 1 & 3. I also use it for what would be the 10,8,6 grip on the E9, except I have no D string on my uni so it's 9,8,6.
Now I hope Wendell is finding this helpful and not confusing... _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!
