Hi all,

I am looking for a tube amp in the 15-20 watt range, ideally fairly inexpensive, to pair with my stringmaster for mostly classic country and honky tonk stuff (Hank and ET through Waylon).

Any suggestions? There's a Fender Blues Jr. on sale through Craigslist locally that seems in the right ballpark price- and size-wise. What are your thought of that?

Others to keep an eye out for?

I'd at least try the Super Champ X2. The A channel is pretty clean and the whole amp is a lot less boxy sounding than a Blues Junior.

There's a small infinity of 15-20 watt amps out there. Good luck with your search.

I have a blues jr. It's about 15 years old. I think it's great. Every now and then I get wondering about other amps, but I always return to it.

Andy,

In my opinion the Blues Jr. is a good choice for what you have described. You should be able to get one used fairly cheap, $350-400, and at 15 watts the thing is pretty loud and has good tone. I have posted often about the Fender Blues Jr. I have used mine for about ten years. Over this time I have made a number of modifications to it which are simple to do and not expensive, but even unmodified the amp performs well. I am surprised at how reliable the thing has been, plus light weight and versatile. Check out my other posts for more detailed info.

Good luck,

Gary Meixner

I have both the Fender super champ and the blues jr 3 love em both. But I prefer the Peavey session 400 for my big gigs. Cheers
