I have a Lexicon MX-300, Stereo Reverb Effects Processor. I play through a Peavey 1000. Can I just connect the Lexicon to my amp with out a power unit ?? Thanks, Martin.

What do you mean with no power unit? The Lexicon can't drive the speakers.
I think that, without a P between the M and X, it wants to see line levels, so you'd want it in the loop (if you run modern high-wound pickups, they're close to line levels if you pick hard), because the noise floor might be a tad high.
If you mean "can I just run from the Lexicon into the power amp in, and use the Lexicon as my preamp?", it should work, but not as well. It wants a hotter input.

You want to connect the Lexicon in the effects loop of the Peavey 1000 more than you want to have the Lexicon in front of the amp like a stomp box.

You don't have to connect the output of the Lexicon back into the return jack of the Peavey. You can plug a shorted 1/4" plug into the effects return of the Peavey to silence the amp & speaker.

You don't have to use a shorted plug, but an open plug leaves opportunities for the electronics to do mischief. I have a 1/4" plug with wire twisted in from the tip to the sleeve - shorted - laying around for just this sort of thing.
