May Day May Day!!!! Emmons to Day Update

Guys........I have followed your detailed instructions and I just completed properly lubricating myself. Charted the rods, pulling the cotter pins on the bell cranks...no problem, sliding the bell cranks over...easy, getting the pull rods through the changer hole big problem!!!!

How does one get the pull rods through the changer hole as the bend is difficult to navigate through the changer hole. What am I missing here?

I welcome all suggestions. Thank you in advance. You guys are life savers.

Bill, not sure if I understand correctly, but the bent end of the rod attaches to the bell crank with the little cotter pin. The straight threaded end goes through the changer hole.

Spin the nylon nuts all the way off and feed the rods towards the keyhead.

Correct....I guess I need to pull the hex end off the rod and slide the rod through that way.

And unfortunately, some guitars, like the Carter, have bends or hooks that connect to the bell crank. You have to put the rod through the changer from the inside. A real pain in the butt.

I have the A,B & C pedals in my Carter changed to a 3/16" 'do-hickey' that takes the place of the "dog bone". Works great. I can put the rods in from the outer side of the changer. And no "dog bones" to break. I want to do the rest of my pedals (on the E9), but those 'do-hickeys' are $6 a piece from Al Brisco. I can get the 3/16' 'do-hickeys' (new guys - pay attention. That is pedal steel terminology) but have to find someone that can drill the hole for the rod to go through. They are already threaded and have a set screw that will hold the rod.

Don't pay attention to Richard Bill. Some guys...

There is nothing in a pedal steel that is rocket science; just take your time and it will work out. Plus there are plenty of folks here who will be happy to help you without feeling they need to put you down.

I tried to learn how to play the harmonica. I thought it was harder than PSG. Also, it screwed up my lips, and affected my kissing with my girlfriend.
