I see that some use 2 Li'l Izzys. Just curious as to whether anyone has tried combining different buffers. I'm thinking: guitar, Freeloader, passive VP, Li'l Izzy. Any thoughts?

Is there a tone hit when you have too many buffers?

The output of a buffer is lower impedance, so a properly designed one should have no effect when fed a lower Z signal.

Gary,
It's been my experience that a buffer shines brightest when it's used ahead of any guitar cord. Hence the design of Li'l Izzy to plug directly into the instrument.

Even a short length of the best guitar cord has enough capacitance to roll-off some of the overtones that make a steel guitar sound so pleasing. The effect is more pronounced following a magnetic pickup than it is following a non-inductive device such as a pot volume pedal.

With this in mind, I would recommend the Li'l Izzy at the guitar and the Freeloader following the volume pedal. Both buffers work well and either way you arrange them, get ready to turn down the treble and presence controls while still enjoying a very clean signal with great string separation. Please let us know your findings.

Happy Fathers Day !
