JERRY BYRD's Dbl-neck Sho-Bud.................
Jerry's famous steel guitar has been sold. I surely wish I could've been the lucky one but getting old as I am, it just wasn't in the check book.
No idea what the sale price was or whom the lucky buyer might be.
If anyone hears more details please share them with us.

JERRY BYRD's Dbl-neck Sho-Bud
It's said, that Jerry Byrd, arguably, is the "Father of the "C 6th" tuning. You can see/hear this on his version of "Sand". What tasty licks, eh?
Ray, all, what tuning did he use on the Front neck of this incredible Sho-Bud? TX

Ron

About JERRY BYRD's tunings................
Obviously, Jerry had many options for tunings.
The 'sound' I hear and recognize most, is his C Diatonic tuning.
Scotty had offered Jerry's Sho-Bud for the past year.
It's been mentioned here on the SGF.

If you remember, at one time Bobby Seymour was offering to build guitars like Jerry Byrd's. Complete with the Sho~Bud logo. I contacted him about building me one and even sent him a deposit. He promised to have it done in 6 weeks. Well, the 6 weeks came and gone and he finally returned my deposit and I heard no more. I think he had a bunch of Sho~Bud parts he wanted to get rid off but maybe the Jackson boys didn't think too much of the idea.

JERRY BYRD's Dbl-neck Sho-Bud
Ray & Erv,
Thank you for your input....Ray, methinks you are closer to reality on the front neck tuning.
Is it accurate to assume this "Jerry Byrd" Sho-Bud Special is hollowed out underneath...(no pedals/rods) if so, could it have been an acoustic hollow body Steel.
Additionally, I too remember Bobby Seymour was initiating what Erv reports....that said, were any other Jerry Byrd Special made? Or was this a one time only.....thanks in advance.......TX

Indeed! I have the recording, and you can watch and hear him play it on the ShoBud on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXEP5DFDMM4Erv Niehaus wrote:I'm quite sure that Jerry played "Sand" in B11th that's the tuning it was written for.

"Sand" was a showpiece for Jules Ah See, master of the B11 tuning. Since I use a high G C6th tuning, which is similar to the A chord at the top of the B11 tuning, I tune the middle G to F# and play it in D, like Jerry and Jules (not as good tho). This works in a pinch when I don't have a second neck or steel with me, but it is SO much nicer in the full 8 string B11 tuning. I can also play it on my pedal steel C6 neck - I have my 4th pedal raise C's to C#'s so I can get the first inversion of the C chord at the 3rd fret. I put the usual 4th pedal throws on my RKR, btw. Using both feet and pressing the 4th, 5th and 6th pedals, I can play "Sand" and othe B11 tunes like "How'd Ya Do" on it.Erv Niehaus wrote:"Sand" was basically written for the B-11th tuning. I have it tabbed out for pedal E-9th but it isn't quite the same.

Shobud D8 Non Pedal
Erv,
Nice find.....Bobbe Seymour Sho Bud D8 non pedal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwb4FaUWQdM
Yep, I would have been interested as well. Beautiful tone and sustain.. Looks like he put George L E66 pick ups on it. Wonder what P/U's were on Jerry Byrd's Special D8 Shobud.
It was treat to see/hear Bobbe again. Loved his "tricks" and Chet Atkins style at the end. TX
