A Unique Steel Experience

Post by Chris Templeton »

I had the unique experience of playing steel in in "Big House" of the Kwakwaka'wakw people in Comox BC, Canada, in 1993.

That's a great photo, Chris. Were you playing a cappello? And what did you play?

I got a message noticing that my feet are not on the pedals. This is a steel that Mitsuo Fujii san made that has a 12 string pedal neck and a lap steel neck, which I am playing, it was originally a six string neck, but the headstock could accommodate 8 strings. In Nashville, Duane Marrs so kindly donated his time and changed it into an eight string. California steeler, David Phillips has the guitar now.

I think Rains guitars made a guitar like that: one pedal neck and one non-pedal neck. I contemplated buying one but lacked the funds. I would've put E9 on the pedal neck and C6(high G) on the non-pedal neck. Maybe in my next life.

Steel guitar will get you through time of no woman better than woman will get you through time of no steel guitar.
