Opinions on Hudson 6-string pedal steels?

Post by Hans Henrik Rasmussen »

Hi all,

I just found out about these which might just suit my need for a pedal steel that I don't need a car to transport. Has anyone tried one of these and care to tell about the experience? I'm looking at the 6-string models.

And I should note that I am only used to playing lap steel, so in that sense I won't "miss" the full 10-string lap steel. On the contrary I thought that maybe these were perfect since it would be easier for me to learn.

Thanks,
Hans

I think the idea is good, and a useful way to start out.
Here is a thread on six-strings.

Fessenden also makes one

and Lone Star did and may still

Investigate the Hudson that has at least two levers.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Does anyone know if these other brands (besides Hudson) are about the same weight? That would be about 15 lbs.

And it would be great to hear from others that have tried any of the different brands!

I've been looking myself; the weights seem within the same range.
Don't know if you've tried a forum search, but you might find more.
I personally think what Jim Flynn, who is Lone Star, builds are the ones.
To get a Hudson fully equipped would not be so cheap,
possibly as much as a Fessenden.

I have been to his home and saw where his guitars are made, he is a super stand up guy, the guitars are very light, good for travel, some say they are extra good for beginners, they will be on display at the MASGA jam in China Grove NC on March 28

6 string

Post by Dan Auldridge »

hello in response about the 6 string pedal steel.
haven't ever touched a Hudson but I have owned and played other six strings and one being a Fessendon.
I really had a lot of fun with it. does a pretty fair job. I played it and lead guitar at the same time and it was ideal for that.(switching off). and the weight is around 11 to 14 lbs. Great man to deal with also, had a small problem with mine and he took care of it very quickly and without cost to me.
