I'm new to this forum. My Dad gave me his Sho-Bud Pro I a few months ago, as he is 87 and can't play anymore. I don't know anything about pedal steel except he bought it from Bobby Chatfield in Springfield, MO. He can't remember exactly when, maybe in 1988. It's a blonde E9 3/3, whatever that means. Obviously I don't know how to play it...it looks very complicated. For anybody keeping track of these old Sho-Buds the serial number is 18586. I can't be sure when it was "born", since Dad can't remember if it was new or used when he got it from Bobby. Can anyone tell me how valuable it is? I know it was priceless to Dad, but I should add it to my homeowners insurance for replacement value. Any information would be appreciated.

Virginia,

These are just general thoughts because pedal steel guitars are such very personal instruments and it is very difficult to assign a monetary value to something so dear as an heirloom.

In all fairness for an accurate appraisal If you could take some good pictures of the guitar, both upright and upside down and showing the condition of all the components and the finish.

Thanks for a place to start. I am enjoying doing research on my Dad's favorite guitar. I'm not leaning towards selling it at all. On the contrary, I'm learning that I have a bit of history and it's a beautiful instrument. It's fun getting to know it.

Virginia,
Simply put. . . The prettiest music in the world was played by the greatest steel players in the world. . . on a blonde Sho~Bud.

Yes Virginia. . . Your dad's guitar is a treasure. When may we expect to hear you play it?

All the best to you.

I can post some pictures when I figure out how to put it together. It's very beautiful and just needs a good shining. Then I'll get on YouTube for some beginner instructions. You'll here me play some time after that.
