There are only two choices for me. I own 2 Mullen G2 guitars and a Mullen Royal Precision. I played Mullen guitars in tne late 1980's when they were virtually unknown in Nashville. After having gone through everything there is available, I'm convinced I was correct in my judgement back then and now. Mullen guitars are the best in tone, workmanship, quality and Mullen's customer service is stellar.
I say 2 choices. Mullen's Royal Precision or the G2. Both outstanding instruments, depending on your needs.
Edited to say, there are many fine pedal steels of great quality being built today. Mullen guitars just seem to be the perfect fit for me.

The problem with that idea is that l'd lose half of everything else I own. On the other hand...i.'d be able to hang with all my single pals again.

In all seriousness, I want a 12 string version of a Zum Encore. I'm content with my 2 MSA Millenniums (who wouldn't be?,) but would like a "beach steel" for rehearsals and other situations where the Millies are than I need.

Fulawka! You just have to listen to one played by a great player (and see them endplates) to know there's something special about them. It's the only guitar made now that I can recognize instantly from 100' away...even without the nameplate.

"This guitar is better than anything I've seen yet for tone. Everything else about this steel is incredible also. The weight, craftsmanship, fit and finish etc., "old world craftsmanship" was the phrase I liked. Yes, I'll take aged maple over anything I've ever seen yet. Or heard yet! "

~Bobbe Seymour, June 11th 2004~

"This guitar is beyond belief"

~Chris Harvey~

"Above Bobbe said " I can't say enough good about them. "... the most telling thing besides the hearing the sound in his hands was : Watching him search for another word to top the last ones...
and he had RUN OUT of superlatives. I almost can't imagine Bobbe speechless.
But this was close. A serious sound.
"

~David L. Donald~

"Hello Dusan my friend, The guitar you built for me is now my number one guitar, there is no contest it is the best sounding steel I have ever played.
... Thank you once again my friend for building me such a great guitar
."

Your Scottish buddy,

~Allan Thompson~

"The Promat sounds GREAT and sustains like a champ!"

~Bobby Carlucci~

"What a great service on Promat guitars!"

~Jan Mulder~

"Promat, when tone matters"

Doesn't make much difference what kind you buy, you're still going to sound like "you".

My choice would be restricted by the fact that many makers omit S-10s from their lineup.

Also I have long thought that any NEW steel I would buy would have to be keyless.

That narrows it down quite a bit!

I've already got my Milly, so would add Mullen G2, Rittenberry, and Infinity.I would be happy to accept any free offers from those Makers as I can't afford to buy any of those beauties. Very Happy

A Brand Spankin' New, Emmons LeGrandeIII that plays and sounds as good as my 20yr. old Emmons LGII D-10. Black, of course......I Guess I'll Keep Dreamin'.... I make enough money pickin' every weekend to buy gas and strings, but a new steel guitar is out of the question....At least that's what my Wife says, and she is the one who works, pays the bills, and affords me the opportunity to play music...I Love That Woman!!!!

Show Pro. Service, craftsmanship, and innovation. Plus you couldn't ask for nicer people that love what they do. I'm on my third guitar and it's almost ready, just needs to be wired up.

I have 7 pedal steels, all from different manufacturers. Most have great inherent tone, all stay in tune and look great. Tone wise and looks wise, one sticks out to me though. The Show Pro. Jeff Surratt has the Midas touch when it comes to tone. Its a real custom shop guitar.

However, to answer the OP's question, I would as a European, look very closely at the superbly engineered WBS steel guitar from Germany. They look, sound and play superbly.
