Topic: anybody know Austin bands w/ steel playing around New Years? |

I'm not sure where to post this but anybody know of some good bands playing in Austin around New Years? I'm gonna be down there from the 30th to the 2nd and love to hear some great steel guitar. Help?

Yes there are good steel players in Austin.....and surrounding areas.However the Austin players won't necessarily be in Austin on New Years Eve.
Dave Biller (Austin) is a great steel and guitar player who plays with several bands...not sure with whom or where he will be. Herb Steiner plays with Michael Martin Murphey and played near San Antonio last night ....not sure about New Years. Johnny Cox plays with the Jason Roberts Band and will be at the Longhorn saloon in Ft Worth.
Other notables from around San Antonio.....
Jody Cameron (from around Houston) plays with Bobby Flores and The Yellow Rose band and will be at the Knights of Columbus hall in Seguin.
Kenny Grohman from San Antonio is awesome and plays with the Rocky King band who will be in Floresville TX at the Events Center.
Jake Hooker and The Outsiders (from Rockwall TX) has Rick Price on steel at The Western Club in Navasota.
Dale Watson and The Lonestars has Don Pawlak on steel and the will be at Big T's Roadhouse in St. Hedwig.
Roger Edgington plays with Billy Mata and The Texas Tradition...great group...know they're playing..just don't have the location...Roger is a Forum member so maybe he will chime in with details.
There are more ..these are just a few...if you're confined to Austin I would suggest going to the Broken Spoke and see who's playing...pretty sure you'll find a steel onstage.

I'm now with Gary P Nunn and will be at Kendalia Hall on NYE, about 90 minutes SW of Austin.
Alvin Crow will be at the Broken Spoke, but may or may not have a steel player with him. Cox has been gigging with him since I went with Gary Nunn, but he regularly works with Jason.
