I'd say because they don't have the tone. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

I've never tried them on a steel guitar, but I tried them on a standard 6 string guitar years ago. They were dead right out of the package. I assume they would be the same on a steel guitar. Surely would get less bar drag noise though. |

They just don't have the "crispness" of tone preferred by most steel players. |

Yes, I think they sound rather "dead" right out of the pack. I tried them back when I started, but quickly learned that good blocking and picking harder takes care of most all of the string noise caused by using round-wound strings. |

One of these days I'd like to try a set of Elixers or other coated strings on Pedal Steel.
I've noticed Just Strings sells Elixer singles, so you could order a set made up of singles. |

Not sure how long the coating on Elixirs will stand up to metal bar friction. On the earlier sets, I found the coating came off standard guitar strings earlier than I would have liked. |

I love them for lap steel and would be curious to hear them on pedal steel. But I've never seen a set prepackaged for pedal steel. Does any company sell a ready-made set of flats for E9? _________________ Lots of stringy things, many of them slidey. |

If Thomastik-Infeld made a set, I'd try them. I've got a Jazz buddy who loves them! Says they're bright, and last forever. I kill American-made flat wounds in a day or two. You open a pack of Tis, and immediately see that they're made to a much higher standard than American strings. It's obvious. Of course a set of TI pedal steel strings would probably cost 40 bucks or more. But I use them on my 6-string guitars. and they hold their tone, and last 4 times as long as American strings. So the cost difference is negated. |

Interestingly, Black Diamond used to make gold flat wound bronze strings, I used to use them an a National steel body acoustic. They sounded great for that old Mississippi bottleneck stuff.
Too bad they are no longer being made. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Yeah Mike. I used them when I got a studio call. But then took them off, as they were dead within a day! |
