I found an unwanted Evans DP2R dual channel rack mount preamp that appeared to be in decent shape on the cheap. I really enjoy the sound of my other Evans stuff, so I went for it. It is really close to great, but it has a nasty crackle when my volume pedal is all the way on. I don't have issues when plugging into anything else and I was very conservative on the input volume settings. I also plugged into input 2, since I believe that's usually a lower gain input on an Evans. It sounded bad on both channels.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be happening? If not, is there a tech out there with a strong knowledge on older Evans products? I can't seem to find out much information on the web about this older product.

Thanks!

Brandon

I don't remember if the one I had years ago had an effects loop or not, but effects loops on Evans amps are notorious for issues. If it does have a loop place a patch cord between the in and out and see if the issue clears. It's worked on many of the old FET 500 LV amps. If you really desire to have it up to par and working like new I would encourage you to contact Darrell Stephens. He is a top notch amp tech and built Evans Amps for many years and they are by far the superior models of the Evans Amps in many opinions....mine included. The preamp you have is really a great sounding unit!!!!

Thanks, David! I'll have to look him up. I appreciate your insight. I'll try the effects loop trick here in a little bit.

Well, the effects loop trick didn't help this time. I guess it needs some repairs after all.

Brandon,
I have a DP2R as well. I took it to The Amp Doctor here in Nashville. I picked it up from him and haven't plugged it in to see if it helped or not. That's been several years ago. Ha!! I guess I should sell it, because it sure looks like I'm not gonna use it. He was less than impressed with how it was put together on the inside for some reason.

So I guess other than giving you the name of a repair man, I really wasn't much help at all...
