Played one of the strangest gigs that I have played in a long time today. It was an outdoor gig in the mountains of Martinez (CA). The area we were to play on was rocks. So, the people throwing the party brought out some squares of particle board. That was real cool, but I was at angle going downhill, from left to right. Started at 5:00pm. HOT!!! As some of you know, to tune the pedals on a pedal steel guitar, you have to turn these nylon hex nuts at the right end of the guitar. Every time I leaned my head down to look to see what nut I had to turn, I felt like I was going to fall down the hill. So, I lived through the tune up phase. Because of the angle I was at, my knees started to lean to the right (gravity, I guess). That caused my knee to start activating the knee lever, making my guitar out of tune. And, if that wasn't bad enough, the rubber tread stuff on the top of my volume pedal came off. The heat from the sun warmed up the glue that held it to the pedal, and it slid off as I used the volume pedal (a Hilton). So, for pretty much the whole first set, I was playing with my foot sliding off the volume pedal as I played. Luckily, during the break, I got my back-up volume pedal out and finished the gig. And to top it off, it got dark. They had no lights where we were playing. Luckily, I carry some little LED lights that are on little goosenecks. It's a pain in the ass to try to use those. And if that wasn't bad enough, I felt my blood sugar dropping, and at break, I gobbled up a few glucose tablets that I carry with me.

Other than that, it was a pretty good gig. LOL

Wow! Sounds like a nightmare. Bet you're glad to have that one in your rearview mirror?

Who will be the first to play pedal steel at the top of Mount Everest? Hey, that's a challenge for someone. Very Happy
It could put the pedal steel firmly in the pages of the Guinness Book of Records for ever. Very Happy

I'd do it, if someone air dropped me at the top.
