Mandrell plays "Slippery Elm"

Post by Herb Steiner »

Must have been when she was a late teen-early 20s, and I don't recognize the guitar, but she plays the living hell out of it.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Herb, the least she could do would be to look down at the guitar and make it look hard?

I saw a clip of Barbara Mandrell where she went around and played every instrument in the band, what a talent!

I saw her play live in 1971. She played SG Rag on steel, smiling the whole time, and played every instrument on the bandstand, sax, drums, guitar, keys, etc.

I love the tune and she plays it great.

Believe it or not, it is pretty simple to play and one of the first steel tunes I transcribed on C6.

If anyone wants to learn it, I posted a video on YouTube--the first video I ever made--that demonstrates it. It was an old analog 8mm tape, and the transfer is glitchy as can be, but it still gets the point across.

Why is the steel is extra long.

The video itself is extra wide for some reason, and everything in the video looks "stretched out". I think the steel is the normal length/width.
