Took my rig to a kinda garden party gig last night. 6 piece band, girl singer and played ontop of a truck facing the audience. Because it was an intimate affair, we never went through the main P.A. My set up is the Cube linked to a seperate cab with a 15 B/W with a Neo magnet.I was astounded yet again on the Cube....I always use the Black Face setting. My gain was 9 0'clock and my volume was on 12 noon. It was a loud band and when it came to my steel breaks....clear as a bell ... no break/up whatsoever. I was just depping with this band and was concerned about "Volume" .. That was totally unfounded. That Roland certainly delivers.

Micky, I'm interested to hear that. I have a Cube 80XL that was my main guitar amp until I ran across a vintage Fender Deluxe Reverb. I still like the Cube, and use it a lot for practice...both for steel and guitar. At one point, I tried it for steel at a gig, but it didn't quite have enough oomph to cut through without breaking up a little.
As it turns out, I recently changed out the 15" BW in my Session 400 for a Eminence. The BW is now mounted in an extension cabinet. So potentially, I can have the same setup as you....Cube 80 and a BW (non-Neo) I think I'll give it a try on our next gig..... |

Hi Tommy, if the 15" B/W cabinet is open backed, all the better. You'll get the spread there and the Cube will give the "direct" sound dispersion. Not sure what settings you used for steel, but if you go to the "Lead" channel, use very little "gain" .. there's loads of volume still available on just the volume control.
My friend Ken Byng did a gig using his Webb amp and a Cube 80XL...he did mention on here sometime back that the Cube held right up to the Webb.
On gigs where all mic up, I still go the "old" way of micing with a Shure SM57....I prefer that to the line out on the back of amps in general. Let me know how you get on....and try to get a Neo Mag for your B/W. Peavey U.K. may have some in. Takes no more than 5 minutes to fit to your existing basket..Your back will like it too
